A Cosmos man is in jail after a short police chase.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Department says on Friday afternoon deputies, along with the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force, were searching for 26-year-old Jonathan Alvarez who had an outstanding warrant from Kandiyohi County for 1st Degree Burglary related to the break-in of an Occupied Dwelling, and 2nd Degree Assault.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies and agents observed Alvarez leaving his residence on South Comet Street in Cosmos. He got into a vehicle and they tried to stop him, but Alvarez fled and led deputies on a short pursuit through the City of Cosmos.

Alvarez returned to his residence and stopped, got out of his vehicle and surrendered. He was taken in to custody, and afterward, a search warrant was executed at Alvarez’s home.

He faces charges of Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, 5th Degree Controlled Substance Violation as well as the active Burglary and Assault warrant. He is being held in the Meeker County jail pending a court appearance.
