Firefighters from across the region responded when the City of Morton’s shop burned to the ground Friday afternoon.

On March 19, at 2:58 p.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls reporting a loader on fire inside a shop on the 200 block of North Main Street in the City of Morton. Before responders arrived it was reported that the building was also on fire.

Fire crews found the building engulfed in flames upon arrival. The loader, a pickup, and several other pieces of equipment were lost in the fire. No one was injured.

The building owned by the City of Morton later collapsed due to the damage and is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Responding agencies included the Morton Fire Department and Medical Response Unit, Franklin Fire Department, Redwood Falls Fire Department, and CentraCare Ambulance.
