The term “DWI” doesn’t necessarily involve alcohol as much as it used to in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says the number of people arrested for driving while impaired in the state is on the rise. Data released yesterday show the majority of motorists cited for driving while impaired had too much alcohol in their system.

However, a growing number are being arrested for being impaired by other substances such as cannabis, opioids, and meth, contributing to a nearly five-percent increase in DWI arrests last year.
