Baseball park fence financed by Twins / adult softball association grants set up at Johnson Field

The new fenced area at Johnson Field in Redwood Falls isn’t just any fenced area. It’s a fence area financed by the Minnesota Twins, matched by a grant from the Redwood Falls Adult Softball Association.

Back in April 2021, the Minnesota Twins Community Fund announced the approval of $146,000 in grants to renovate youth baseball and softball fields throughout the Upper Midwest. Established in 1999, the fields for kids program makes cash donations to improve the condition of youth baseball and softball fields.  To date, more than $5 million has been granted to help renovate more than 850 ballfields in the Upper Midwest and Southwest Florida.

The City of Redwood Falls and the Redwood Falls Adult Softball Association were one of 16 recipients of a Twins Community Fund Field For Kids Grant.  The $9,000 grant, along with a match by the Redwood Falls Adult Softball Association, helped complete the outfield fence project at Johnson Field.

City parks staff prepped the area by tearing down the old fence, and extended the warning track.  Then Oberg Fencing of Deerwood, installed the fence last week, taking three days.
