This past Labor Day weekend, over 260 Minnesota law enforcement agencies were out again with increased patrolling of the state’s roads, looking for impaired drivers. Statewide, they caught 1,140 drivers.
The highest reported blood alcohol content was from a driver in Nobles County, caught with a BAC of .44. One driver in Winona County was arrested for DWI twice within three days. The Minnesota State Patrol caught one driver with a .14 BAC driving at 107 mph in a 70 mph zone.
The agency that had the highest number of arrests was once again the Minnesota State Patrol, with 84 arrests statewide.
Law enforcement across the state arrested 19,035 drivers for DWI so far in 2023 compared with 18,223 this time last year (as of Sept. 11).
Drugged driving accounted for 8,069 DWI incidents from 2013-2017 compared with 15,810 from 2018-2022 — that’s a 96 percent increase.
