Albert Lea farm blamed for Kansas City stench

An Albert Lea farm has been blamed for causing a literal stink in Kansas City.

On November 7, the National Weather Service Kansas City tweeted that it had found the culprit responsible for the city’s “questionable air quality.”  A map attached to the tweet showed a path from Kansas City to southern Minnesota.

Residents called news outlets and even 911 to report the smell, which was being aptly depicted as the poo emoji by media, and even by the Kansas City Police Department.

One Kansas City meteorologist even pinpointed an exact location in southern Minnesota he believed was responsible.  Nick Bender, a meteorologist for KMBC 9 said he believes Top Notch Stock Farm near Albert Lea was the guilty party.  The cattle farm is located northwest of the junction of interstates 90 and 35.

The farm was apparently trapped in a shallow mixing layer of a cold front that had trapped the smell and traveled south to Kansas City.
