A South Dakota truck driver was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a rollover north of Renville.

According to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, on June 14, at about 3:50 p.m., law enforcement received  a report of a one-vehicle rollover  about four miles northwest of Renville.

Emergency responders found a 2015 Mack tandem-axle truck  containing a large water tank resting on its top near the intersection. The driver of the truck, Wayne D.  Weisser, age 57, of Tripp, SD was out of the vehicle when responders arrived.

Weisser had been behind another vehicle traveling westbound on  Renville County Road 11. The vehicle in front of Weisser intended to make a left turn onto 220th Street,  and was slowed or stopped in the traffic lane waiting for oncoming traffic to pass by before making the  turn. To avoid striking the rear of the vehicle in front of him, Weisser swerved to the right, entered the  ditch and his truck overturned.

Weisser was treated at the scene, then flown by a North Air Care helicopter to North Memorial  Health in Robbinsdale, MN with serious, but not apparent life-threatening injuries. The truck involved in  the crash sustained heavy damage.

Agencies assisting at the scene included the Renville Fire Department, Renville Medical Response Unit  (MRU), Renville Police Department, Olivia Ambulance Service and North Air Care.
