KLGR Community Cafe: Talking Turkey (Trot) with Chris Schmitz

Last year’s Turkey Trot began at the corner of Swain and Highway 19/71 in Redwood Falls, and this year’s begins on Nov. 26 at the same location.

For the past nine Thanksgivings in the Redwood area, there’s been a special celebration to start the day: the Turkey Trot.

The process is simple: you wake up, put the turkey in the oven, if that is your choice, then head to Functional Fitness on Highway 19/71 in Redwood Falls. From there you run or walk a 5k in the fresh air, have a good time with other runners and walkers, and go home nice and hungry to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner.

But The Turkey Trot isn’t just a fun event; it’s also a fundraiser for the Redwood Falls Youth for Christ, and a collection for the Redwood Area Food Shelf. You can do a good deed while you’re working up your appetite on Thanksgiving day.

KLGR News Director Joshua Dixon spoke with Redwood Falls Youth For Christ Director Chris Schmitz about this year’s Turkey Trot, the tenth, about how it’s following the tradition of previous ones, and how it has had to be a little different this year:
