Golf ball-sized hail hits SW MN Sunday morning

Mark Oja of Redwood Falls recorded the larger-than-a-quarter hail that struck near his home early Sunday morning.

Southwestern Minnesota was hit with golf-ball sized hail early Sunday morning, and some damage has been reported.
Law enforcement reported downed trees and power lines in Redwood Falls around 1:05 a.m. Redwood Falls did have a report of 62 mph around 12:16 a.m., with six-tenths of an inch of rain as of Sunday morning. Rain varied however; Oliva reported two and a half inches of rain.

Boaters at Spicer on Green Lake have reported boat damage, and people have posted photos on Facebook of hail damage to the siding of their houses.

The website “Mapbox” recorded the size of the hail reported between Willmar and Redwood Falls Sunday morning.

John Markuson, who runs the website “Redwood Falls Area Weather Enthusiasts” stated, “If you would have been outside when the golf ball sized hail hit you in the head last night, you would have been severely hurt. A golf ball sized hail stone can reach up to 40 mph falling from the sky.”
