Continued soggy and snowy conditions limited field activities in northern Minnesota with 1.7 days suitable for fieldwork statewide during the week ending April 12, 2020, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. 

Warmer and drier weather in southern Minnesota allowed for limited small grain planting. 

Livestock producers reported manure hauling and calving. 

Other field activities for the week were fertilizer and manure application, rock picking, and vegetable planting. 

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 0 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 43 percent surplus. 

Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 0 percent short, 56 percent adequate, and 44 percent surplus. 

Three percent of the expected oat crop has been planted, one week ahead of last year but 6 days behind the 5-year average. 

Potatoes were 1 percent planted.
