Harvest Wrapping Up as Weather Improves

More favorable weather conditions compared to the previous week allowed for continuing the corn for grain harvest during the week ending November 1, 2020, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. 

However, snowmelt left some fields and pastures muddy. 

There were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork. 

Field activities included fall tillage, harvesting corn for grain and manure and fertilizer application. 

Snowmelt increased both topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies statewide. 

Topsoil moisture condition rated to 2% very short, 8% short, 84% adequate and 6% surplus. 

Subsoil moisture condition rated 4% very short, 12% short, 79% adequate and 5% surplus. 

Corn for grain harvest was 83% complete, three weeks ahead of last year and 10 days ahead of the 5-year average. 

Corn moisture content of grain at harvest remained at 17%. 

The sunflower harvest was nearly complete at 97% harvested, 40 days ahead of last year and four weeks ahead of the five year average.
