Memorial Day Program

Olivia service organizations are making the final preparations for the Memorial Day activities for 2022.  On Thursday decorating of the graves of veterans at the Olivia and St. Al’s cemetery will start at 4:30.  If you would like to help with the placing of the Flags and Bronze Stars meet at the cemetery at that time.  In the event of weather conditions the alternate rain date is on Friday at 4:30.  The Flags and markers will be removed on Tuesday at a time to be announced.   Volunteer help is always welcome.

The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sons of the Legion will present the 2022 Memorial  Day Program at the church Cemetery in Bechyn on Monday morning starting at 9:00.  The program at Olivia will take place at the National Guard Armory at 11:00 that morning.  The main Address will be given by Olivia Mayor Jon Hawkinson, music for the program will be provided by members of the BOLD High School Band.  Following the program a lunch will be served by the Legion Auxiliary in the basement of the Armory.

The Dedication of Veterans Park in Olivia will take place on Monday May 30th starting at 3:00 that afternoon.  A description of the Memorial will be given by Dominique Claseman who took this project on as his Eagle Scout Project.  The Mayor of Olivia, Jon Hawkinson will  be the speaker for the dedication.  A dedication prayer will be rendered by Pastor Matt Hausken.  Veterans Park is located right behind Hometown Bank and is on highway 71.  Everyone is most welcome to attend the dedication.
