Darrell Holmberg

Darrell Holmberg, age 84, of Lamberton, MN died on Friday, November 25, 2020.

A private family service will be held. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

Darrell Thure Holmberg was born on December 21, 1935 to Thure and Ethel (Fox) Holmberg at home in Redwood County. He was baptized and confirmed at Sharon Lutheran Church in Lamberton, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and graduated in 1953 from Lamberton High School. After high school he served in the MN National Guard. On May 4, 1957, Darrell was united in marriage to Jeannine Meyer at Rosehill Lutheran Church in Rosehill Township. The couple made their home in Storden, where Darrell was employed at Farmers Grain. In the fall of 1969, the family moved to Lamberton and Darrell started farming and raising livestock. He also enjoyed carpentry and designed and built their home on the farm. Darrell enjoyed helping his children with projects in their own homes and making projects for his grandchildren. He was very involved in the community and giving of his time. Darrell was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where he held various offices. He was the Highwater Township Treasurer for 30 years, director on the Cottonwood County ASC committee, Meadowland Co-op Board as secretary, Region 8 SRDC Committee, and also a member of the Lamberton American Legion. He enjoyed his visits every morning for coffee with friends, going to high school sports and activities, playing cards, and bowling. Darrell loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their soccer and hockey games and other activities they were involved in.

He is survived by his wife – Jeannine of 63 years; daughter – Cathie (Mark) Helminick and their children – Brianna (Zach), Katie, Jonathan (Abby) and Bryan; daughter – Robin Martin and children – Kelsey and Alex; 3 great grandchildren – Noah, Gibson, and Maddox. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 children – Jonathan and Cari; and 3 brothers – Armin, Dale, and Lowell. Although Darrell has passed, many great memories will forever stay in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. Blessed be those memories.
