A Benson man led deputies from two counties on a high speed chase in Kandiyohi and Meeker Counties Thursday.
At about 9 p.m. on Aug. 27, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Department was informed of a vehicle on Highway 12 in Kandiyohi County driving toward Meeker County at a high rate of speed, without headlights, and often in the ditch.
A Kandiyohi County deputy found and tried to stop vehicle just across the Meeker County Line. Instead, the driver led the Kandiyohi County deputy on a seven mile chase on Highway 12 that sometimes reached up to 90 miles per hour.
A Meeker County deputy eventually joined the chase. Near Meeker County Road 31, the suspect vehicle sent across a ditch and into a field. The driver, Luiz Giron-Castellannos, age 27, of Benson, and a passenger, Byron Moreno-Barahona, age 30, no address listed, fled on foot, and were arrested without further incident. Another second passenger who remained in the vehicle was not charged.
