The following is a summary of the Redwood County Board meeting held April 21:

  • Entered in Joint Ditch Authority with Yellow Medicine County at 8:30 a.m.
  • Entered into regular session at 8:36 a.m.
  • Approved the agenda; April 7th minutes; bills.
  • Recognized Naomi Baune for 5 years of service to Redwood County.
  • Set camper cabin rates at $70.00/per night at Plum Creek Park.
  • Awarded furniture for the Plum Creek camper cabins to American Bedding Manufacturers in the amount of $11,483.15 funded through a park grant.
  • Approved the Farmland Lease Agreement with Dennis Hemish.
  • Approved CUP #1-20R filed by Steven and James Tisue to rezone land from Agriculture to Industrial for a car impound and towing business.
  • Approved CUP #4-20 filed by Alan Panitzke for a gravel pit.
  • Approved the Auditor-Treasurer consent agenda items: Cash Balance Report; Investment Summary; Budget Reports; and March 2020 Disbursements.
  • Approved Loan Guidelines and Application for the COVID-19 Emergency Business Loan Program.
  • Approved to allocate up to $200,000 in funds from the revolving loan program to the COVID-19 Emergency Business Loan Program.
  • McNamara and Filippi updated the Board on the status of the Courthouse Security Project planning and the Government Services Project.  Board consensus to continue progress on both projects.
  • Adopted Resolution to advance CSAH funding for CSAH 6 pavement rehabilitation project.
  • Approved to hire Joel Bryant as FT Assistant County Attorney on the non-union salary schedule, Grade 18, Step 1 effective April 27, 2020.
  • Approved to promote Jamie Larsen from FT Highway Maintenance Specialist to FT Highway Maintenance Superintendent on the non-union salary schedule at Grade 14, Step 1 effective April 22, 2020.
  • Approved the AFSCME HCSP Agreement.
  • Acknowledged the resignation/retirement of Becky Kuelbs-Pautzke effective April 30, 2020.  The Board has directed a hiring freeze on a case by case basis until further notice.
  • No action taken on the property tax penalty relief.
  • The Board reviewed the March Jail Population and STS Quarterly report.
  • Rescinded award to Goblish Construction for LEC Sidewalk replacement based upon failure to complete the project and authorized to restart the bidding process.
  • Reviewed the SW MN Private Industry JPA and directed Peterson to review prior to final approval for JPA to be drafted by SW MN Private Industry Council.
  • Adopted resolution reappointing Anthony Sellner as Redwood County Engineer.
  • Approved payment to the City of Walnut Grove in the amount of $16,177.00 for the County’s share of the cost of demolition of the grain elevator in Walnut Grove.
  • Approved to end the rotating schedule of placing staff on paid administrative leave and directed all staff to report to their job duties effective April 22, 2020.
  • Board consensus to readdress new board room technology in the 2021 budget planning.
  • Approved to send letter to State Representatives to support a bonding bill to maintain infrastructure and put our economy back on track per recommendation from the Minnesota Rural Counties.
  • Board consensus to not proceed with the Spring newsletter to Redwood County residents due to the cost, budget concerns and the information we share now might not be accurate by the time the newsletter is published and delivered.
  • The Commissioners reported on meetings they attended.
