$30 million for state Disaster Assistance Fund moving forward in Minnesota House

Governor Tim Walz’s request for a $30 million infusion into the state’s Disaster Assistance Fund appears to be on a fast-track in the Minnesota House, clearing a key committee Monday on a unanimous voice vote.

Brown County Emergency Manager Laine Sletta told lawmakers the aid is a godsend to small units of government. “For… a small township with not too many people in it, it doesn’t take much for their entire operating budget to be blown out of the water,” Sletta says.

Over in the Senate, Finance Committee Chair, Vernon Center Republican Julie Rosen says adding more funding to the Disaster Contingency Account is one of her top priorities.
