A Benson man is under arrest after a bomb was found in his pickup north of Willmar Monday afternoon.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department says at 1:15 p.m. Monday deputies responded to a report of a pickup at the side of the road near the intersection of County Road 41 and 37th Avenue Northeast, about a mile north of Willmar.
Inside the truck they found a 31-year-old Benson man, sleeping. While they were checking the man’s driving status, he fled from the truck and ran into a nearby cornfield. It was later learned his driving status was revoked. While taking inventory of the truck, deputies found an object with a fuse and removed it. The Minneapolis Bomb Squad was notified, and they came and determined it contained explosive components, and they rendered it safe at the time.
On Tuesday the suspect was located in The City of Willmar and arrested, and is in the Kandiyohi County Jail awaiting charges. Assisting the sheriff’s department were Willmar and Minneapolis Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the CEE-6 Drug and Gang Task Force.
