Michael Gene Hanson

Michael Gene Hanson, age 74, of Renville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 7, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Renville.  The Rev. Jane Crawford will officiate.  Burial will be Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls.  Visitation will be Friday, one hour prior to the services at the church in Renville.  Military Honors will be provided by the Renville American Legion Honor Guard.  Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Michael Gene Hanson was born on January 8, 1945, in Raymond, Minnesota to Oliver and Catherine (Novak) Hanson.  He and his family lived in Raymond for a short time, they then moved to a farm north of Sacred Heart and lived there until moving to Renville.  Mike served his country in the United States Army, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, “The Screaming Eagles”.  Following the service, he returned home to Renville.  He was united in marriage to Peggy Blankenhagen on December 7, 1968, at First Lutheran Church in Renville. Mike worked as carpenter, doing stucco and drywall work for many years.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Renville American Legion, life member of the DAV, and a past Boy Scout Leader.  He loved to go fishing and hunting, garden, wood work, read, and play card with the guys at the RenVilla.  Mike was also known for being a jokester and instigator, he enjoyed having a good time.  He truly loved his grandkids and great grandkids and was a wonderful papa.

Survivors include his wife Peggy, his sons and daughter:  Chad (and Tanya) of Breezy Point, Michelle (and Jeremy) Houck of Deerwood, and Eric of Renville; his grandchildren:  Gabrielle (and Dakota) Rognlie, Ariel Hanson, John Houck, and Austin, Hunter, Autumn, and Owen Hanson; his great grandchildren: Laila, Morgan and Blake, and Aiden; his brothers and sisters: Lloyd (and Joyce) Hanson of Willmar, Jim Hanson of Renville, and Mary Lou Hanson of Renville; his two sisters-in-law: Merle Hanson and Marvel Hanson; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Krista Houck, and his siblings: Moe, Beverly, Betty, and Buster.
