CDR. Lyle L. Zitzman

Surrounded by his family, Lyle passed peacefully on Saturday, April 6 from pancreatic cancer at age 91.

A humble kind man, he was devoted to his wife, family, faith and country. His greatest joys were sports & coaching, enjoying friends, gardening, coupon shopping, philanthropic giving, ice cream and a hearty laugh.

He proudly served his country in the Navy 1950-1975 as Commander – Squadron VP 811 & VP 2E5; serving active duty Mining Squadron Pacific and during the Cuban Missile Crisis recall. He lived the Navy motto: “Honor – Courage – Commitment”.

He is survived by his loving spouse of 67 years Elaine; daughter Dr. Pamela (Dr. David) Perell, son Brian (Valerie) Zitzman; grandchildren Anna (Mike) Fuchs, Lauren (Travis) Zitzman, Dr. Gabriella Perell, Kara Zitzman; great grandchild Eleanor Fuchs; sister JoAnn (Richard) Passon.

Memorial service will be held Monday April 15 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior at Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Louis Park MN. Private interment with Military Funeral Honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Demontreville Jesuit Retreat House, Lake Elmo MN.
