Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, MNDoT recommend no travel on KLGR-area roads (updated)

At 3 p.m., the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office is advising no travel due to blizzard conditions.  The Redwood County highway department advises the current conditions do not allow for their equipment to operate safely.  They advised until visibility improves, they will not be operating on county roads.


WILLMAR, Minn. – (2:30 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is advising no travel in portions of southwest Minnesota due to blowing snow and whiteout conditions. It has expanded its no travel advisory to include all of the following areas in Lac qui Parle, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Yellow Medicine, Renville, Lincoln, Lyon, and Redwood counties:

  • Highway 7 – Milan to Blomkest
  • Highway 14 – South Dakota border to Highway 71
  • Highway 19 – South Dakota border to Vesta
  • Highway 23 – Willmar to Marshall
  • Highway 29 – Highway 40 to Montevideo
  • Highway 40 – South Dakota border to Willmar
  • U.S. Highway 59 – U.S. Highway 212 to Marshall
  • Highway 67 – U.S. Highway 75 to Highway 19 Blvd.
  • Highway 68 – South Dakota border to Marshall
  • U.S. Highway 75 – Ivanhoe to the northern Yellow Medicine County border
  • Highway 119 – Highway 40 to Dawson
  • U.S. Highway 212 – South Dakota Border to Renville
  • Highway 271 – South Dakota border to Highway 19
  • Highway 274 – Granite Falls to Wood Lake
  • Highway 277 – Highway 40 to Highway 7

Snowplows will continue to operate, but motorists are advised not to travel until conditions improve. As the storm continues to progress, we may experience no travel advisories in other portions of southwest Minnesota.

The public can view winter road conditions from plow cameras available through the website. Please note that not all plows have cameras. Road conditions on major highways can also be viewed through the Road Weather Information System (RWIS), which is also part of 511.
