New Ulm Diocese priest cleared of wrongdoing by Glencoe police

On Tuesday, Sept. 5, the Glencoe Police Department officially completed its investigation into a sexual misconduct allegation against Fr. James Devorak, and no charges will be filed.

Fr. Devorak cooperated fully with the investigation and denied any wrongdoing. The police officer in charge of the investigation states that he closed the investigation because there was no evidence to substantiate the allegation made against Fr. Devorak.

Fr. Devorak’s ministry status will be considered by the New Ulm Diocesan Review Board. Fr. Devorak, who is a retired priest of the Diocese of New Ulm, was removed from public ministry when the allegation was revealed earlier this summer. It is standard procedure for the Diocese of New Ulm to remove clergy from ministry if an allegation against them has been received.
