Delbert Wetzel, age 81, of Olivia died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Joel Luetke officiating. Burial will be in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues on Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Renville County Hospice or Builders For Christ, 5116 Lakewood Drive

Delbert William Wetzel was born September 27, 1932 in Gaylord, Minnesota to William and Lillian (Hildebrandt) Wetzel. He grew up in Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School in 1950. Delbert Wetzel married Evelyn Bresser on June 2, 1957 in Canby, Minnesota and they were blessed with four children. Delbert had been a lifelong dairy and grain farmer retiring in 1989. During retirement he worked at the Bird Island beet pile site for Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Cooperative until 1998. Delbert attended Sharpening School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1989 and opened Sharp-it-Shop where he sharpened many items until his illness. Delbert was a faithful member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the church council, was a head usher for many years and had volunteered for Builders For Christ on many work projects in six different states. Delbert had been a member of the Men's Club, Renville County Dairy Association and was a Township Supervisor for Kingman Township for over 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking, metal work, camping, card clubs and square dancing since 1964. Delbert and Evelyn traveled in their R.V. and wintered in Texas and Arizona for over 20 years.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wetzel of Olivia; his four children: Lynn (and Bruce) Serbus of Roseville, Loren (and Mary) Wetzel of Brooten, Jan (and Gary) Steffel of Olivia and Jill Kramin (and special friend Mark) of Olivia; his fourteen grandchildren: Jeffery Serbus, Erica Serbus, Patrick Wetzel, Anna Wetzel (and special friend Ryan) , Christopher Wetzel, Loren Wetzel Jr., Nowell Wetzel, Benjamin Wetzel, Connor Bratsch, Victoria Bratsch, Forrest Kramin, Hayden Kramin, Zoe Kramin and Libby Kramin; and his one great-grandchild, Issabella Unke. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents.
