MN Sports Headlines for Monday, Feb. 20th:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kevin Love hit a pair of free throws with less than a second remaining to give the Minnesota Timberwolves a 92-91 win over the Philadelphia 76ers last night. Love finished with 20 points and Ricky Rubio added a career-high 22 points. The Timberwolves have won three in a row after dropping four straight.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Niklas Backstrom made a career-high 48 saves to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins yesterday. Matt Cullen and Chad Rau each had a goal for the Wild, who won for just the second time this month. Tim Thomas stopped 27 shots for the Bruins, who have lost six of ten.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild yesterday were without center Warren Peters, who was suspended one game by the NHL. Peters was penalized for cross-checking David Backes in the head during Minnesota's loss to St. Louis on Saturday. Peters said he needed to be more responsible with his stick.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Minnesota Twins pitchers and catchers held their first official spring training workout yesterday in Florida. Right-hander Carl Pavano will be the opening-day starter, and the team signed Jason Marquis to be the fifth starter. Manager Ron Gardenhire says he believes better health and better defense behind the pitchers will make all the difference this year.
