A panel presentation: "Remembering the Civil War, 1861-1865," will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13 in Charter Hall 217 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.
The presentation is part of a sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War and will include one program each semester until the fall of 2015.
Panelists and their topics include:
• Emeritus Professor of Education Dr. Lloyd Petersen, "No Choice but Secession: A Southern Point of View."
• Professor of History Dr. Joan Gittens, "Mary Chestnut’s Diary: A Southern Woman Views the War."
• Professor of Business Administration Dr. Gerry Toland, "Forever Free in 1862: How Did Lincoln’s Principle of Indispensable Necessity Emerge from the Chaos of Arrogant Generals and Military Misfortune?"
• Associate Professor of History Dr. Tom Williford, "The First Cinco de Mayo: The French Intervention in Mexico and the U.S. Civil War."
The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the SMSU History Club. It is a part of Women’s History Month activities at SMSU.
