MN Sports Headlines for Friday, Feb. 3rd:

DENVER (AP) - Niklas Backstrom made 37 saves last night as the

Minnesota Wild blanked the Colorado Avalanche 1-0. The victory gave

Backstrom his third shutout of the season and the 25th of his NHL

career. Greg Zanon scored the game's lone goal for the Wild.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The Minnesota Timberwolves look to rebound

from a disappointing loss when they take on the Nets in New Jersey

tonight. The Wolves failed in their fourth try for a .500 record

with a 109-99 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. A win

tonight and Minnesota would go for an even record at home against

Houston tomorrow.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A lawyer for Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin

Byfuglien (BUHF'-lihn) says it appears his client is heading to

trial on a boating while impaired charge in Minnesota. Attorney

Mitch Robinson says he and a prosecutor were "miles apart" on a

plea agreement yesterday. Byfuglien is accused of boating while

intoxicated last August on Lake Minnetonka.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - With athletics director Joel Maturi stepping

down, Minnesota coach Tubby Smith says he's not concerned about his

job status. Smith spoke yesterday after Maturi announced he'll

retire this summer. Smith says he's "certain" he'll be back next

season.
