Parkview Home-now open!

Who is happier—the residents returning “home” or the staff? It was hard to tell this morning-but everyone was all smiles.

Residents at Parkview Home in Belview are moving back in after 7 months today.

Staff members welcomed the first resident back at about 9:30 this morning and after being welcomed with applause from staff she said “I told you I would be back!” Sue Nelson-the director of social services says that they are expecting 7 residents to be moving in today and by about a week they will have 10 residents.

July 1st a tornado ripped through the community and took with it the roof of the facility. Parkview had 25 residents at the time they evacuated and were moved to other area Nursing Homes including in Olivia and Redwood Falls. Unfortunately 13 residents passed away over the last 7 months.

The Parkview Home Building sustained about $750,000 in damages. The building was flooded on at least 2 different occasions due to the lost roof.

Majority of the staff was laid off during the 7 months and Jim Broich, Parkview administrator estimated that 90% would be returning.

Staff members shared stories today of how they visited residents at their new locations over the summer and fall and attended funeral services of past residents. Residents, their families and staff alike called and stopped in frequently to check on the progress of the facility.

Construction to repair the building also meant an opportunity to make a few changes. One resident that moved in today was excited to check out the new “pub” area that has been created and another was sitting in a sunny spot in front of window catching up with staff this morning.

An open house is being planned for the Spring to welcome the public to the facility.
