Sleepy Eye School to vote on 4 day week soon

Nearly 100 people attended the final of three hearings Monday in the Sleepy Eye High School cafeteria as the District School Board considers a four-day school week for 2012-13.

The proposal is estimated to save $80,359 next school year and each year thereafter.
If the board approves the measure at the next school board meeting-classes would begin at 7:55 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., with an eight-period day next fall.

Several teachers said they were skeptical about the change at first but reportedly- they completely changed their minds after visiting other schools with the same schedule.

The district will still need to pass an excess levy referendum in the next few years to avoid a projected funding deficit according to board members.
