
Ione Akre, age 81, of Montevideo, formerly of Granite Falls, passed
away December 31, 2011, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. from
the Assembly of God Church in Granite Falls, with burial at Hillside
Cemetery, Sioux Agency Township, rural Echo. Visitation will be held
one hour prior to the service Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the
church. Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso
are in charge of the arrangements.
Ione Jean Akre was born March 14, 1930 at home in Sioux Agency
Township, to George and Anna (Rekedahl) Akre. She went to school and
grew up in the Echo area until she moved with her parents to Granite
Falls. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Clarkfield Nursing
Home and the Granite Manor for about 35 years. She was a caregiver and
also cared for her parents in their home. Ione loved animals and had
a dog all her life. It was hard for her when she had to give up her
dog Mitz. She also had a collection of dolls which she loved. Ione
loved her family and enjoyed visiting with them. Ione embroidered dish
towels and pillowcases for her family.
Ione lost her battle with Parkinson’s and passed away on December
31, 2011, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 81
years, 9 months and 17 days. She is survived by her brothers and
sisters; Reuben Akre of Yuma AZ, Rosalie Klingsheim of Ames IA, George
(Jane) Akre of Peobody MA, Betty (Philip) Olson of Paynesville¸ and
James (Trish) Akre of Priest River, ID. Also surviving are 16 nieces
and nephews, 31 great nieces and nephews and 2 ½ great great nieces
and nephew, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her
parents, an infant brother, brother Peter, niece Kimberly, nephews
Craig and Kevin, sister-in-law Eila and brother-in-law Paul. Blessed
be her memory.
