MN Sports Headlines for Friday, Jan. 6th:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota All-Star Kevin Love is off to a

historic start this season for the Timberwolves. Love is the first

player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975 to score at least 20

points and pull down at least 12 rebounds in his first six games of

the season. Love and the Timberwolves host the Cleveland Cavaliers

tonight.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota senior Ralph Sampson III is trying

to help the team recover from the loss of star Trevor Mbakwe.

Sampson says he's become a lot more mature about the way he handles

his career and life. The Gophers have lost their first three Big

Ten games this season.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) - Doctors have confirmed a Minnesota

high school hockey player paralyzed in a game last week probably

won't walk again. Neurosurgeons at HCMC say 16-year-old Jack

Benilde-St Margaret sophomore was injured after being checked from

behind last Friday against Wayzata.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Verdell Jones broke a late tie with

four straight points to lead No. 12 Indiana past No. 16 Michigan

73-71 last night. Christian Watford scored 25 points for the

Hoosiers, who beat a ranked team for the third time this season.

Tim Hardaway Jr. had 19 points for the Wolverines.
