MN Sports Headlines for Thursday, Jan. 5th:


VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Roberto Luongo made 28 saves

in his 700th NHL game last night as the Vancouver Canucks shut out

the Minnesota Wild 3-0. Luongo's only other shutout this season

also came against the Wild. Minnesota has lost ten of its last 11

games.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Rudy Gay's 19 points and eight rebounds

helped the Memphis Grizzlies defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves last

night 90-86. O.J. Mayo added 14 points for the Grizzlies, who

played without Zach Randolph. Kevin Love had 27 points and 14

rebounds for the Timberwolves, who also got a double-double from

Ricky Rubio.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Matt Gatens scored 19 points last night as

Iowa beat Minnesota 64-62. Gophers guard Maverick Ahanmisi missed a

runner as the buzzer sounded to give the Hawkeyes their first

back-to-back Big Ten road wins in five seasons. Julian Welch led

Minnesota with 14 points.

 


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The National Collegiate Hockey

Conference has introduced Jim Scherr as its first commissioner.

Scherr served as CEO of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 2003

through 2009, when he was unexpectedly ousted. The NCHC includes

Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State.
