The Redwood Falls City Council held an organization and council meeting Tuesday evening.
Corey Theis was elected as the council president.
2012 Commission appointments were approved. Several appointments were extended to 2nd or full terms for commission members. New appointments included appointing Teri Smith and Matt Smith to full terms on the Park and Recreation Commission, Ernie Fiala and Doug Prins on the Planning Commission, Theresa Kerkhoff to Hospital Commission, and Pat Flahaven to Police Commission. There is still an opening for the Public Utilities Commission.
An ordinance that reorganizes the park and recreation departments in the city of Redwood Falls was approved last night. Historically, the city has operated the park and Recreation Department as separate entities but council directed staff to develop a reorganization plan to consolidate the departments into one unified department. The committee and City administration determined that although separate operations in the past-they has been somewhat unified already with management and budget perspectives. By merging, the staff assignments could be managed in a more efficient manner. The managers of the departments have met with the administration to work on a reorganization chart. The proposed changes reduced the number of department managers that report directly to the City Administrator from 3 to 1. The current Redwood Area Community Center Manager-Jackie Edwards will be reclassified to Parks and Recreation Director.
