State Trooper injured in Redwood Falls crash



A Minnesota State Patrol Trooper in marked squad was responding to an accident with lights and sirens on Sunday afternoon when he became involved in accident.
 
39 year old Matt Smith with the Minnesota State Patrol was responding to an accident Sunday at about 4 PM when a juvenile male from Seaforth, driving a Chevrolet K10 pickup stopped at a stop sign but failed to yield to the squad car along Highway 67 in Redwood Falls.
 
The squad car continued southbound and struck a Chevrolet Equinox head on being driven by 27 year old Christopher Huwe of Morgan. The squad car and Equinox came to a rest in the ditch North of Highway 67.
 
Trooper Smith sustained injuries that required medical care, his injuries are listed as non-life threatening. He was wearing his seatbelt and an airbag deployed in that accident.
 
The juvenile drivers name is not being released. The driver and his passenger, 18 year old Zachary Liebl of Redwood Falls had no apparent injuries.
 
The driver of the Equinox, Christopher Huwe had no apparent injuries. His wife, Darcy Huwe 28 of Morgan was a passenger in the vehicle and was treated and released with injuries at the Redwood Area Hospital.  2 children in the vehicle-Kara-1 and Jaden 8 had no apparent injuries.
 
All parties in the accident were wearing seatbelts according to the report.
