She was born in Washburn, N.D. July 6th, 1928 to Rudolph and Elizabeth Klein. Betty graduated from Turtle Lake, ND high school with honors. As the youngest of three sisters she attended Bismarck School of Nursing and graduated in 1949. She began her nursing career at Denver Children’s Hospital and was later employed at the Bismarck Hospital in Bismarck N.D. as head nurse on 1st floor. In January of 1954 she married Al Schultes and raised their three children in Olivia, Minnesota where they owned and operated Schultes Insurance Agency for 13 years and later purchased the Vesta State Bank. She also enjoyed spending family time at their summer cabin on Kandiyohi Lake. Betty was married for 38 years at the time of Al’s death. She then moved to Willmar, Minnesota and began her retirement after working over 40 years. She enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia and the Caribbean. In 2002 she moved to Missoula where she enjoyed her last years at Grizzly Peak Retirement home. Betty took great care and pleasure in her family and friends and they loved spending time with her because of her great sense of humor and zest for life. Betty worked hard her entire life so her children could have the extras she never had as a child and was a great role model, wife, mother and friend. We will be forever thankful to Millar Bryce for his wonderful companionship and attention to our mother. He will always be in our hearts.
Betty is survived by her sister, Phyllis Bauer of Turtle Lake, ND, children Dean Schultes (Julie) of Olivia, MN, daughter Marlys Gillen (Dan) of Missoula and Roger Schultes (Fiancee Jayla) of Missoula. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kim (Ryan) Kortuem and Brian (Brea) Schultes, and great grandchildren Logan, Kevin, Kamara, Torren and Kieran.
