Mildred Kuehn, the daughter of Carl and Amanda (Stage) Rohde, was born April 19, 1915 in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Sheridan Lutheran Church in Sheridan Township.
Mildred married Gustav Kuehn on July 5, 1934 at Weber, Minnesota. The couple settled on the Kuehn home farm south of Echo and there raised eight children, Melvin, Elaine, Mavis, Murl, Marlin, Marlice, Marlene and Marvin. They worked together on the farm until Gustav’s death on April 19, 1965. Mildred moved to Vesta in 1982 and eventually to Parkview Home in Belview. She continued to live there until a severe storm on July 1, 2011 damaged the building and she was evacuated to the Golden Living center in Olivia where she lived until the Lord took her home. Mildred Lucille Rohde Kuehn passed away on December 8, 2011 at the age of 96 years and eight month and 19 days.
Mildred loved the Lord and Savior and had such a passion for life. She enjoyed working and serving others and was the cook for a period of time at St. Luke’s Parochial School. She loved raising her family and being on the farm. She enjoyed cooking and garden; the cellar was always full of canned foods and those who came to visit didn’t go away hungry. She loved seeing her family come and had a special place in her heart for "little ones," as she lovingly spoke of them. She visited with people who were shut-in and Marlene summed up her feelings and those of her siblings, as follows: "We all will miss you so much, Mom. You gave us so many wonderful memories that we will cherish forever."
Mildred Kuehn is survived by her children, Melvin Kuehn of Dassel, Elaine Schlenner of Woodbury, Mavis and Don Byers of Austin, Murl and Lynn Kuehn of Echo, Marlin and Mary Kuehn of Youngsville, NC, Marlice and Gary Halvorson of Youngsville, NC, Marlene and Dennis Ryks of Renville, and Marvin and Vicky Kuehn of Redwood Falls; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; one sister Violet Dresow of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav Kuehn; a granddaughter, Lori Kuehn Williams; a grandson Joseph Kuehn; one son-in-law, Donald Schlenner; two daughters-in-law, Doris Kuehn and Phyllis Kuehn; her parents, Carl and Amanda Rohde; one brother, Gilbert Rohde; and two sisters, Dorothy Fletcher and Arlene Racine.
Blessed be her memory.
