MN Sports Headlines for Wednesday, Nov. 30th:


EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings have signed

long snapper Matt Katula to replace the injured Cullen Loeffler. He

was injured after a hit while covering a punt in Sunday's loss at

Atlanta. Katula spent five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and

played last season with the New England Patriots.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota is preparing to move one without

star forward Trevor Mbakwe. The senior was lost for the season to a

torn ACL in his right knee in Sunday's loss to Dayton. Coach Tubby

Smith says center Ralph Sampson III hasn't practiced this week

because of a sprained ankle and he's questionable for tonight's

game against Virginia Tech.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minnesota federal judge has put the legal

fight between NBA players and owners on hold to give the side times

to finish their collective bargaining agreement. The judge granted

a stay request by the players yesterday. The two sides reached a

tentative agreement Saturday and are in the process of completing

the negotiations.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Mankato West quarterback Philip Nelson has

been picked as the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year.

Nelson helped lead the Scarlets to the Class 4A semifinals, where

they lost to Bemidji. The award was voted on by a statewide panel

of sportswriters and broadcasters.
