Luella Gentz





Luella Gentz, age 78 of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Lamberton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Luella Loretta (Hoffrogge) Gentz was born February 27, 1933, in Lamberton, MN to John and Reka (Henning) Hoffrogge. She grew up and attended Lamberton schools. Luella worked at B F Goodrich-Panasote-Holm Industries in New Ulm for over 35 years retiring in 1998. After retiring she was the donut maker at Casey's in Sleepy Eye for about 8 years and loved visiting with all the people. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer and was lucky enough to get a hole-in-one on April 7, 1988, at the Sleepy Eye Golf Course. Luella was a longtime bowler on many teams in Sleepy Eye and New Ulm. In honor of her passion for bowling of 30 plus years, she was inducted into the Sleepy Eye Bowlers Hall of Fame. Lu enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, visiting with friends, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

Lu passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center at the age of 78 years.

Lu is survived by daughters- Leona Steinhaus of Hutchinson, Patricia (Scott) Ibberson, Debra Brandl, and Micky (Dave) Goblirsch, all of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren- Lisa (Kent) Reed, Shanon (Troy) Nelson, Nathan Steinhaus, Jennifer (Brian) McCormack, Anne Ibberson, Jessie (Mike) Fuller, Angela (Chad) Fischer, Heather (Steve) Schultz, Joseph Brandl, Amanda Goblirsch, and Kacie Goblirsch; 14 great-grandchildren; in-laws- Doris Hoffrogge of Mankato, Harriet Hoffrogge of Lamberton, Elaine Hoffrogge of Madelia, and Fred Otsea of Mankato; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Christopher Goblirsch; son-in-law Daniel Steinhaus; and siblings- Seibo, Harry, Henry, George, Bill, Marvin, Marie, Amelia, Ella and her twin sister Leona.

She will be remembered by her family and all her grandchildren by always giving you the extra "Giggle" because whatever she had done "wasn't funny"!
