MN Sports Headlines for Saturday, Nov. 19th:

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - For a team that was all but out of it not

too long ago, Northwestern isn't in such a bad spot these days.

Beat Minnesota today and the Wildcats become bowl-eligible.

Northwestern (5-5, 2-4 Big Ten) is on a three-game winning streak

after dropping five in a row and will try to keep it going against

one of the conference's worst teams in the Golden Gophers (2-8,

1-5).

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins plan to add another

bronze statue of a former player outside Target Field next year.

Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says the player has yet to be named. He

would join statues of Harmon Killebrew, Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew,

Tony Oliva and the late Twins owner Carl Pohlad and his wife

Eloise. Smith says the Twins hope to unveil the new statue at the

April 9 home opener against the Los Angeles Angels.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - St. Cloud State freshman Ryan Faragher

made 40 saves to lead the Huskies to a 4-3 Western Collegiate

Hockey Association win over top-ranked Minnesota yesterday.

Faragher was the difference as the Golden Gophers (10-3-0, 7-2-0)

outshot St. Cloud State 43-18. He made 28 saves in the first two

periods as the Huskies (6-5-2, 4-2-1) took a 4-1 lead.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins and versatile catcher

Ryan Doumit have agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract. Doumit

is a career .271 hitter who can also play first base and right

field, skills that fit with what the Twins are seeking this

offseason. They need a backup for catcher Joe Mauer who can produce

at the plate.
