MN Sports Headlines for Thursday, Nov. 17th:

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Christian Ponder is trying to forget

about his welcome-to-the-NFL game at Green Bay when he was sacked

three times, threw an interception and completed less than half of

his passes. The Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback says he's not

dwelling on the disappointment and is confident he'll be able to

bounce back.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins finalized a two-year

contract with veteran middle infielder Jamey Carroll. The deal with

37-year-old career .278 hitter includes a mutual option for the

2014 season.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Vikings security will start

using hand held metal detectors on fans at home games, beginning on

Sunday when the team plays the Oakland Raiders. The metal detectors

will be in limited use for this weekend's game, but will fully

replace the current pat-down procedure by the time the team plays

the Broncos on December 4th.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Minnesota snowmobiler Levi LaVallee will try to

make a side-by-side attempt to break world records for the longest

motorcycle and snowmobile jumps on New Year's Eve. The Longville

native will try to make the concurrent jump with Robbie Maddison

over a 300-foot water gap in San Diego. LaVallee was set to make

the jump last New Year's, but he had to back out after he was

seriously hurt in a crash two weeks before.
