Bessie Wohnoutka, age 103, of Olivia died Thursday, November 9, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia. Mass of Christian Burial is Monday 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. Paul van de Crommert as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Sunday 4-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues Monday at the funeral home from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.
Bessie M. Wohnoutka was born June 11, 1908 on the family farm in Henryville Township, rural Olivia, MN to Frank and Mary (Kucera) Trochlil. She grew up on the farm and attended country school. Bessie married Anton Wohnoutka on October 18, 1932 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls and they had two sons. They farmed for many years in Renville County and later retired into Olivia. Anton died in 1975 and Bessie remained in her home until 2004 when she moved to Fairview Place. Bessie had been a resident of the Golden Living Center these past four years. She had been a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Bessie had enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing cards and baking, especially making kolaches, dumplings and apple strudel.
Bessie is survived by her son, Alvin and his wife Regina Wohnoutka of Milroy; her daughter-in-law Nancy Wohnoutka of Chaska; her two grandsons: Brian Wohnoutka and Scott (and Judy) Wohnoutka; her three step-granddaughters; and her six great-grandchildren. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Anton Wohnoutka, her son Thomas Wohnoutka, her daughter-in-law Lorraine Wohnoutka, her six brothers and her two sisters.
