Virgil Kettner, age 76 of Springfield, died Sunday, November 06, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Springfield with burial in the Springfield City Cemetery – Veteran’s Section.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Virgil Ferdinand Kettner was born March 14, 1935, in Bashaw Township, Brown County the son of Alfred F. and Della (Wendt) Kettner. He attended country school district #52 and graduated from Springfield High School. Virgil served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned to farm in Bashaw Township and also worked for the Department of Agriculture for 38 years. Virgil was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield and served on the Board of Directors at Harvestland. He enjoyed Canadian fishing, bowling, baseball, and attending the Boston Red Sox training camp.

Virgil Kettner died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 76 years.

He is survived by sister Lenore and husband Roland Richert of Springfield; nephews- Gary and wife Colleen Richert of Springfield, and David and wife Joan Richert of Springfield; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Della.
