Natl. Sports Headlines for Monday, Oct. 31st

Natl. Sports Headllines for Monday, Oct. 31st:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles scored touchdowns on

their first three possessions en route to their 34-7 shellacking of

Dallas last night. The victory improves to Eagles to 3-4 and makes

coach Andy Reid 13-0 in games following a bye week.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Chris Carpenter, Tony La Russa and the World

Series champion Cardinals drew huge cheers yesterday at the NFL

game between the St. Louis Rams and New Orleans Saints. They might

have fired up the Rams, who were two-touchdown underdogs before

knocking off the NFC South-leading Saints 31-21 for their first

victory of the NFL season.

TORONTO (AP) - The surprising Buffalo Bills improved to 5-2 by

blanking the hapless Washington Redskins 23-0. The Bills defense

sacked Washington QB John Beck nine times as the Bills shut out a

Mike Shanahan-coached team for the first time in his 267-game NFL

head coaching career.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Tony Stewart passed Jimmie Johnson on a

restart with three laps to go and surged into contention for his

third NASCAR Sprint Cup championship with three races left in the

Chase for the championship. The victory was the third for Stewart

in the first seven races of the 10-race playoff as he moved to

within eight points of series leader Carl Edwards.

NEW YORK (AP) - A person familiar with the negotiations says the

Yankees have made a contract offer to ace CC Sabathia, who has

until today to decide whether to opt out of the $92 million and

four years remaining on his current deal. If the 31-year-old

Sabathia opts out, he would become the top pitcher on the

free-agent market.
