The Redwood County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the Redwood Falls Police Department will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 29, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. All citizens of Redwood County are invited to bring their unused prescription drugs to the Law Enforcement Center lobby at 303 East Third Street. The drugs can be prescription or over the counter medications, however, only medications will be accepted. Needles, thermometers, glucose testing devices, batteries, or other non-narcotics related materials will NOT be accepted. In accordance with DEA guidelines, businesses involved with the sale or distribution of controlled substances are not allowed to participate in this event.
The citizens of Redwood County are encouraged to participate in this program to reduce the availability of prescription drugs to the youths in our area. Over the past few years, teenage use of prescription drugs for recreational purposes has increases significantly and resulted in injury and death to many who take these narcotics. Juveniles and teens often use prescription narcotics without knowing what they are ingesting and under the belief prescription drugs are safer than traditional illegal substances.
For more information on this program you may contact Assistant Chief of Police Jason Cotner at 507-637-4005 or Chief Deputy Mark Farasyn at 507-637-4036.
