Natl. Sports Headlines for Tuesday, Oct. 18th:

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New York Jets are 3-3 after

Darrelle Revis and Mark Sanchez led them to a

24-6 victory over the winless Miami Dolphins. Revis returned an

interception 100 yards for the Jets' first touchdown and held

Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall in check. Sanchez ran for a TD

and completed 14 of his 25 passes for 201 yards, one touchdown and

no interceptions.

NEW YORK (AP) - NFL head coaches Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz

will not be fined by the NFL for their on-field altercation

following San Francisco's 25-19 win over Schwartz's Detroit Lions

on Sunday. Schwartz chased Harbaugh down the field after the 49ers

coach gave him a roundhouse handshake and a backslap. The two had

to be separated in a scrum that included players and other coaches.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) - The Saints say surgery on coach Sean

Payton's injured left leg was successful and he should be able to

return to work Wednesday. The club's orthopedic surgeon repaired a

meniscus tear and fractured tibia a day after Payton was injured in

a sideline collision during New Orleans' 26-20 loss at Tampa Bay.

Payton expects to call plays from the coaches' booth when the

Saints host Indianapolis on Sunday night.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Chargers tight end Antonio Gates practiced

yesterday for the first time in several weeks in hopes of playing

against the New York Jets. Gates has missed the last three games

following a flare up in his lengthy bout with plantar fasciitis in

his right foot. He tore scar tissue near the injury Sept. 18

against New England.

UNDATED (AP) - NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson says IndyCar should

stop racing on ovals and stick to road courses. The five-time

defending driving champ says he was glued to his television Sunday

watching the coverage of Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon's

death in the IndyCar season finale on the oval at Las Vegas Motor

Speedway. Johnson believes the IndyCar cars are built for street

circuits and road courses, and drive too fast to race on ovals.
