Tipsy grain bin in Morgan

The Morgan Fire Department was called out due to fear of a grain bin collapsing.

Sunday morning Scott Potter heard a metal crunching sound from his office. When exploring the noise it was discovered that a Morgan Grain and Feed grain bin was kinked.

The full bin is located on Front Street/ Highway 68.

The Morgan Fire Department arrived on the scene about 10:30 AM to secure the scene. With concern that the bin could collapse on the street the road was closed for a short time.

Excel energy was called because of concern that a transformer was also in the path of the tipsy bin. Power was not disconnected because quick action improved the situation.

Employees were called out to empty the bin by opening it up from the back-spilling the grain out and relieving the pressure to the structure.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation re-opened the road once the bin was being emptied.

The Morgan Fire Department officials report that the bin will be taken down or secured until it can be removed.
