DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Gophers have finished an

early season sweep of the defending national college hockey champs.

They edged Minnesota-Duluth 5-4 last night as Nate Condon tallied

two goals and Nick Bjugstad added a goal and two assists. Condon

also had the game-winner in Friday's 5-4 win. The Gophers are 4-0

while the Bulldogs are off to a 1-3 start.

 

UNDATED (AP) - Erik Higby's goal early in the second period was

the difference as Northern Michigan edged St. Cloud State 3-2 in

college hockey on Saturday. Joey Holka and Jared Festler had goals

for the Huskies who are 1-3 so far this season. Justin Jokinen had

the lone goal for Minnesota State, Mankato in a 4-1 loss to

Massachusetts-Lowell. The Mavericks are 1-3.

 

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings edged the Minnesota

Wild 3-2 last night on Johan Franzen's power-play goal with 48.5

seconds left in overtime. Ian White and Jiri Hudler also scored for

Detroit, which trailed 2-0 in the second period following goals by

Greg Zanon and Cal Clutterbuck. Detroit is off to its first 4-0

start since the 1997-98 season.

 

CHICAGO (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings are in Chicago for a

meeting with the Bears as the bottom half of the NFC North gets the

prime-time matchup. The Vikings are coming off a win over Arizona

last week. The Bears lost to division-leader Detroit on Monday

night and have been routed in the sacks game, allowing 18 and

getting nine this season.
