UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - After scoring twice in the first period,

the New York Islanders held on for a 2-1 win over the Minnesota

Wild yesterday. Andrew MacDonald and Frans Nielsen scored the two

Islanders' goals. Minnesota's Matt Cullen lit the lamp in the third

period for his second goal is as many games.

 


EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian

Peterson delivered on his promise to be a more vocal leader to try

and get the team turned around. Peterson rushed for 122 yards and

three touchdowns Sunday against Arizona. The Pro Bowler also

delivered pep talks to the offense in the second half to make sure

they didn't blow the big lead.

 


EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - One day after being benched for a

disciplinary reason, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says receiver

Bernard Berrian will be back in the playing rotation this week.

Berrian was on the inactive list Sunday against Arizona. Frazier

says he's still counting on Berrian to contribute to the team.

 


ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Nelson Cruz's 11th inning grand slam

lifted the Texas Rangers to a 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers

yesterday. Cruz also hit a game-tying homer in the seventh as the

Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the AL championship series. The teams

have a quick turnaround before tonight's Game 3 in Detroit.
