PHOENIX (AP) - Ryan Roberts cracked a first-inning grand slam

and Chris Young followed with a solo shot and later hit a two-run

homer to power the Arizona Diamondbacks past Milwaukee 10-6 to tie

that NL Division Series at two games apiece. Game 5 will be decided

Friday night in Milwaukee.

 


ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia

Phillies also will go the distance to decide their NL Division

Series. David Freese  homered, doubled and drove in four

runs in the Cards' 5-3 win over the Phils last night to set up

Friday's matchup between Chris Carpenter and Phillies ace Roy

Halladay to decide the series.

 


NEW YORK (AP) - New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is handing

the ball to Ivan Nova in tonight's decisive Game 5 against the

Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium. The Tigers are going with

right-hander Doug Fister with the winner of tonight's game moving

on to the American League Championship Series against Texas

starting Saturday night.

 


BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Bruins will raise their championship

banner before tonight's season opener against the Philadelphia

Flyers. It will be the sixth banner for the Bruins in the TD Garden

rafters after they beat Vancouver in seven games for their first

title in 39 seasons.

 


SAN MARTIN, Calif. (AP) -Tiger Woods is in the field for this

weekend's Frys.com Open in his first tournament since missing the

cut at the PGA Championship. Woods is also buoyed by the fact he

has won an endorsement deal with Rolex, his first major gain in

that department since losing five major endorsements in the two

years since he was exposed for serial adultery and enduring a

divorce.
