Gilbert Ludewig, 92, of rural Springfield, MN died on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Mayo Health System in Springfield, MN.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN and will continue on Monday October 3, 2011 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Church of the Japanese Martyr in Leavenworth, MN.
There will be a Parish Prayer Service on Sunday at 6:45 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Japanese Martyr on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:30 AM.
The Clergy will be Father Andy Michels.
Interment will be at the Church of the Japanese Martyr Cemetery in Leavenworth, MN.

Gilbert Wilbert Ludewig was born November 19, 1918 to John and Martha (Meyer) Ludewig in Leavenworth Township. He lived most of his life in Leavenworth Township on the family farm. From 1941-1945 Gilbert served in the United States Army serving in England and Germany. On September 11, 1951 Gilbert was united in marriage to Alice Coners at the Church of Japanese Martyrs. Gilbert was a truck driver starting for Jenniges Transfer hauling brick and then Reddemann Trucking hauling livestock. He also owned and operated a small gravel hauling business which he thoroughly enjoyed. Gilbert was a lifelong member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, American Legion and VFW. He also served several years as a township assessor. Gilbert enjoyed deer
hunting and also mowing his lawn. He and Alice enjoyed traveling and spending time with all his family especially the young ones. He will always be remembered for his infectious smile and unconditional love.
Gilbert Ludewig died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Mayo Health Clinic System in Springfield, MN at the age of 92.
Gilbert is survived by his wife - Alice; children - Carol (Dave) Meyer of Granite Falls, Eugene (Kay) Ludewig of Springfield, Sherry (Donny) Bloemke of Sleepy Eye, Clete (Julie) Ludewig of Sleepy Eye; daughter-in-law - Debbie (Duane) Ludewig Distad of Good Thunder; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters - Lucille Mathiowetz of Springfield, Bernice Augustin of Sleepy Eye and Doris (Wilbert) Rosenau of Olivia, MN; brothers-in-law - George (Mavis) Coners of Hendricks, MN and Fred (Ginny) Coners of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son - Richard; daughters - Lori and Monica; granddaughter - Kristin Bloemke; sister - Elvira Baier and brother - Marvin.
