Residents in one Minnesota county are turning out to speak on whether they should get to vote on a plan that would raise their taxes to pay for a new Vikings football stadium.
The Wednesday night public hearing is near the proposed suburban Ramsey County stadium. Vikings owners and county commissioners want to build a $1.1 billion stadium there to replace the Metrodome the team says is no longer profitable enough.
Karen Berg lives next to the stadium site and says residents should get to vote on the half-cent sales tax increase proposed as the local share. She's worried a stadium plopped down in a quiet suburb could hurt home values and quality of life.
Dozens of team supporters are at the meeting in Vikings purple.
