MN Sports Headlines for Tuesday, Sept. 27th:
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Kansas City Royals scored four runs in
the sixth inning to top the Minnesota Twins 7-3 last night. Melky
Cabrera had two singles to become the first Royals player to get
200 hits since 2000. Michael Cuddyer cracked a two-run homer for
the Twins.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Twins All-Star Joe Mauer says pneumonia
caused the premature end to his rough season. Mauer insisted
yesterday that the illness was too much for him the play, but he
would've been on the field if he could. Mauer played in 82 games
this season, batting .287 with three home runs and 30 RBIs.
NEW YORK (AP) - Columbus defenseman James Wisniewski has been
suspended for the rest of the preseason and the first eight
regular-season games for a blow to the head. Wisniewski was
punished for an illegal check on Minnesota Wild forward Cal
Clutterbuck last week. Minnesota forward Brad Staubitz was also
suspended for a hit from that game and will missed the rest of the
preseason and the first three regular-season games.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A standout Minnesota high school
quarterback says he'll play at the University of North Dakota if he
doesn't get an offer from Iowa. Joe Mollberg of Detroit Lakes has
given North Dakota a verbal commitment. Mollberg says he likes the
direction the Fighting Sioux program is headed.
